Quarterly report IBNS, 2024/4

Ukraine continues its fight for territorial integrity, which has affected the activity level of our Chapter, with offline meetings remaining quite rare. However, collectors still gather regularly in Kyiv, where members of the Ukrainian Chapter sometimes meet, trade, and discuss their collections.

On October 6-7, during the Sberatel exhibition in Prague, Czech Republic, we organized a gathering spot for Ukrainian collectors. Our table featured banknotes, coins, books, postcards, and various Ukrainian souvenirs. We extend our gratitude to the exhibition organizers Jindrich Jirasek and Petr Jirásek  for kindly providing this opportunity and for their support of Ukraine.

From September 16-18, the National Bank of Ukraine held its first numismatic conference titled “Money and Banks in the History of Europe.” During this event, Ukrainian IBNS Chapter member Evgen Likhatskyy (#11932) presented a report on a historical topic: the previously undocumented banknote of the Sich Riflemen’s military camp store. The conference is planned as an annual event, offering numismatics and bonistics experts the chance to present their research, both offline and online, to Ukrainian audiences.

An unexpected meeting of Ukrainian Chapter members and IBNS members from Switzerland took place during the 52nd money exhibition on October 27, 2024. In the photo, the third person from the left is Dr. Ruedi Kunzmann, President of the Zurich Numismatic Society, expert at Sincona AG, and organizer of numismatic exhibitions in Zurich and Basel.

We are also pleased to announce the upcoming launch of our annual interactive competition, Commemorative Banknote of the Year. Last year’s event received many positive comments, and we are excited to make it a yearly tradition.

This report is also published in the official IBNS journal #63.4 for 2024.
