Banknote of the Year

Each year, the International Banknote Society (IBNS) holds the prestigious Banknote of the Year competition to recognise the best examples of design and innovation in the world of banknotes. This event brings together collectors, designers and fans of paper and polymer money from all over the world.

The aim of the competition

“The Banknote of the Year” competition is designed to recognise the unique artistic, technical and innovative achievements of modern banknotes. The jury evaluates not only the aesthetic appeal, but also the level of security, technical innovations and historical context of the design.

Terms of participation

The competition is open to banknotes issued during the current year and widely used as a means of payment. Participants of the competition (IBNS members) can nominate banknotes that they believe deserve to win. After the nomination period is over, all IBNS members are entitled to vote for the best banknote.
